Real Cinnamon vs. Fake Cinnamon ?

Real cinnamon is a spice which comes from Cinnamomum zeylanicum or verum whichare tropical evergreen trees native to Sri Lanka.

Fake cinnamon comes from Cinnamomum cassia found in China, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Is there any real difference between real cinnamon as opposed to fake cinnamon.

Although both cinnamons may be closely related, and may have the same beneficial properties there is a difference. Fake cinnamon although it does taste stronger, contains coumarin which is a known blood thinning compound. if you need advice on this always speak to a health professional.

Many people are unaware that they have never really tasted true cinnamon. Over the years due to supply and demand, real cinnamon became to expensive and much harder to import. That is when fake cinnamon started to be imported.

Fake cinnamon is a lot cheaper due to the fact it grows in more than one region. Although it may not be as sweet as the real one, due to its stronger taste it is ideal for using in preparing food.
Both cinnamon contain;

  • Calcium
  • Iron
  • Fiber
  • Manganese
